New hope for homes on Nightmare Street

Liverpool Echo

November 01, 2025

DERELICT homes on a “nightmare” street are to be taken over by Liverpool City Council after a deal was reached with the developers who own the houses.

- By DAVID HUMPHREYS Local Democracy Reporter

The council has confirmed it will now take back control of vacant units on Ducie Street and Jermyn Street in Toxteth.

The long-abandoned homes had become something of an eyesore in the community. Ducie Street is one of the Granby Four Streets found in the heart of Toxteth, where numerous improvements have taken place in the past years.

The agreement reached with West Tree Estates follows a lengthy period of negotiation. Both parties have now resolved all outstanding disputes relating to the L8 properties.
