HE FINISHES EIGHT SHOTS CLEAR AFTER FOUR ROUNDS
TRIUMPHANT: Owen Tweed is presented with the Robin Fraser Trophy by county president Alan Turton
OWEN Tweed (Willesley Park) has claimed his first county golf major, writes Jennifer Prentice.
He won the Leicestershire and Rutland County Golf Union's Spring Championship for the Robin Fraser Trophy, a world amateur ranking tournament.
It was contested over four rounds with the opening 36 holes played at The Leicestershire GC, from which the leading scorers played the final 36 holes at Glen Gorse the following day.
The weekend event was played in near perfect weather conditions, warm and sunny with little wind.
But it is still one of the toughest tournaments of the year for county golfers, testing them physically and mentally.
