Organisers delighted at huge turnout for Dorking 10s races

DORKING and Mole Valley Athletics Club (DMVAC) held its annual Dorking 10s 10-mile and 10k road races on Sunday, attracting a large turnout of 612 runners across the two races.
-
The successful turnout for the event means that DMVAC's chosen charities for the race, the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Action for Carers Surrey, will benefit. This year the club is donating 20 per cent of profits to each charity.
The 10-mile race was started by BBC news reporter and tv personal-ity Sophie Raworth, who also ran the race, finishing 72nd woman in one hour 23 minutes and 30 seconds. Raworth also stayed after the races to present the winners' medals.
The 10-mile race, which acts as the Surrey County Athletic Associa-tion's 10-mile road championship, was won in a time of 50:22 by Jack Kavanagh of Holland Sports, with Phil Wicks of Belgrave Harriers in second place in 52.53. George Grassly, formerly of DMVAC but now also of Belgrave Harriers, was third in 53.05.
