|December 16, 2025
AN IRISH boat skipper has been hailed a hero after racing to the chaos of the Bondi Beach mass shooting to pull terrified swimmers from the water.
Nathan Gallagher, from Burtonport, Co Donegal, was working nearby when the gunmen opened fire.
He steered his vessel towards shore where he found “absolute carnage” as panicking victims fled the horror.
Speaking to RTE's Liveline, Nathan revealed he was shaking for the victimsand got a tongue-lashing from his partner Gail after telling her he was heading towards the danger.
Nathan, who appeared on reality show Below Deck Mediterranean, said: “It was, it was absolute carnage.
“They were completely shook. Some people were shaking for the whole 20 minutes that we were there.
COMPOSURE
“I kept my composure and me and the crew kept our composure and we were able to calm them down, thankfully.
“They got in contact with their loved ones and their family actually texted me after it and they were so appreciative. It was incredible.
“It was actually heart warming to read their messages.”
