'Rent reform a REIT rip-off'

Martin backs rule changes hailed by fund

TAOISEACH Micheal Martin defended rent reform legislation despite Ireland's largest residential landlord predicting a 25% rise in income.

The opposition have slammed the Government for the reforms that come into effect next Sunday.

In any new tenancies on or after this date, landlords can reset rents every six years to “market value” or any time there is a new tenancy.

At present they can be increased by 2% every year.
