STARS GLEN POWELL AND MARGARET QUALLEY JOIN DIRECTOR JOHN PATTON FORD TO DISCUSS THEIR NEW BLACK COMEDY THRILLER, HOW TO MAKE A KILLING.

- BY LYNN RUSK

KNOWN for his old-school charm and confident leading-man energy, Glen Powell had been craving a new challenge when his latest project came along.

The 37-year-old, who came to global fame in Top Gun: Maverick alongside Tom Cruise and starred in the romantic comedy Anyone But You with Sydney Sweeney, found that challenge in the script for How to Make a Killing.

The black comedy thriller, inspired by the 1949 classic Kind Hearts and Coronets, follows Becket Redfellow, a blue-collar worker disowned by his wealthy family who will stop at nothing to reclaim his inheritance.

Written and directed by John Patton Ford, How to Make a Killing sees Glen's character descend into psychopathy on his quest to eliminate the remaining members of his family to claim the life he believes he "deserves".

The film also stars Margaret Qualley, Ed Harris, Jessica Henwick and Bill Camp.

Glen, a fan of Ford's debut film, Emily the Criminal, starring Aubrey Plaza, says he found the How to Make a Killing script unlike anything he had read before.

"Its concept was just so compelling and had such a great ensemble of characters," says the Texan. "When I read it, I realised this was the kind of role I'd been looking to take on."

He adds: "The movie John was talking about, on a tonal and taste level, was the kind of film I hadn't seen in the marketplace.
