Suvendu orders holding centres for illegal immigrants in Bengal

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal has advanced its policy to “detect, delete and deport” illegal foreigners, with chief minister Suvendu Adhikari directing all district magistrates to establish “holding centres” for apprehended illegal immigrants ahead of their deportation.
The Foreigners’ Branch and SAARC Visa Section of the state home department, headed by Adhikari, issued the order on Saturday directing districts to set up such centres in line with a May 2025 directive of the ministry of home affairs (MHA).
