Rising marital disputes not due to women empowerment': SC judge

Supreme Court judge Justice B.V. Nagarathna said on Saturday in Bengaluru that the rising number of matrimonial disputes in India should not be attributed to the growing financial independence and empowerment of women.
Instead, she stressed that Indian society and families must "update their attitudes" and practices.
The Supreme Court judge was speaking at the Southern Zone Regional Conference organised in Bengaluru by the Family Courts Committee of the Supreme Court of India.
