The traditional Victorian opera gloves are back on the social scene. With the likes of singer Rihanna, actors Anne Hathaway, Deepika Padukone and other celebrities and fashionistas wearing them for galas, red carpets, runways and social media, the trend is back with a flair.
At the BAFTAS '23, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton wore an Alexander McQueen repurposed gown and styled it with a pair of black opera gloves reaching her bicep. This piqued interest for many to join the trendwagon. However, the wave of regency core (all thanks to the web show Bridgerton) also got fashion enthusiasts to lay their hands on the trend. Designer Poonam Dubey, co-founder of a clothing brand, says, "The resurgence of opera gloves may be due to the renewed interest in vintage and retro styles, and the glamour and elegance associated with them."
