Uttarakhand Government Constituted the Rural Development and Migration Commission in August 2017
DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand Rural Development and Migration Prevention Commission is identifying approximately 100 villages to check migration, people aware of the matter said.
According to officials, the objective of the move is better implementation of the government schemes in these villages, and providing better healthcare, education and employment opportunities so that further migration from these villages can be curtailed.
Migration Commission's vice chairman Sharad Singh Negi said, "The government has given us the mandate to identify around 100 migration-hit villages, grouped in clusters of 10, where steps will be taken to improve the implementation of government schemes and provide education and employment opportunities by respective departments, so that any possibility of further migration can be curtailed."
"Around 4.5 million people still live in the hills of the state. The government's focus is to provide them employment opportunities so that they can earn their livelihood without leaving their villages," Sharad Negi said.
Negi said, "Our report will also carry in-depth profiles and suggestions for these villages."
