State water resources minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary met the Union Jal Shakti minister CR Patil in New Delhi and sought his intervention for an early clearance to the 'much-awaited' detailed project report (DPR) of Kosi-Mechi river inter-linking project, officials said on Friday.

PATNA:

The Centre had sanctioned the ambitious Kosi-Mechi river interlinking project in April this year. In August, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced ₹11,500 crore flood mitigation plan for Bihar, which also included the Kosi-Mechi river interlinking.

However, DPR prepared for the scheme by National Water Development Authority (NWDA) is still awaiting the Centre's nod.

"The Kosi-Mechi inter-linking project, entailing an estimated expenditure of ₹6,300 crore, aims to provide irrigation to around 2.10 lakh hectare in the Seemanchal area," said the minister.

Chaudhary stated that for the Kosi-Mechi river interlinking project, the Centre has agreed to a funding ratio of 60:40.
