Tax benefit of no help amid inflation: Cong

Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday alleged that the Union Budget 2025-26 presented in Parliament by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman made "no sense" for the middle-class amid rising inflation, and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Centre on only favouring the rich.
NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday alleged that the Union Budget 2025-26 presented in Parliament by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman made "no sense" for the middle-class amid rising inflation, and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Centre on only favouring the rich.
"They have put all the people with up to ₹12 lakh salary in the 'no tax' slab, but how many even earn that much? The tax benefit makes no sense amid increasing inflation as there are just 70 million people in India who can pay taxes," Gandhi Vadra said while addressing a rally in the New Delhi constituency.
The Wayanad MP also alleged that whatever tax benefits the budget has announced will be "taken back" in the form of goods and service taxes (GST).
