Oppn slams delay to act on motion against judge

Opposition lawmakers have expressed strong discontent over what they describe as an undue delay by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar in acting on a notice for an impeachment motion against Justice Shekhar Yadav of the Allahabad high court.
NEW DELHI:
The notice was submitted in December 2024 after a controversial speech delivered by the judge at a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) event, which was widely criticised for promoting hate speech and majoritarian rhetoric.
Calling the matter serious, Opposition MPs demanded that the government and the Rajya Sabha Chairman provide a clear response ahead of the upcoming Monsoon Session.
