Migratory buntings rely on rest to boost muscle strength, immunity: Study

A recent study by professors from the zoology department at Lucknow University reveals that black-headed buntings and red-headed buntings, the winter migratory birds that visit parts of Barabanki and Varanasi annually, regain their muscle strength during the resting phase.
LUCKNOW:
"They also repair their immune system through adequate rest during this phase, which improves their performance for the next flight and boosts their cognitive ability and confidence," said Shaile Malik, professor at LU's zoology department.
Both bunting species arrive in India during the fall, between September and October, and return to their breeding grounds in West Asia and Southeast Europe in the spring, between March and April.
