ECI SEEKS PUBLIC VIEWS ON FIVE QUERIES LINKED TO BIHAR S.I.R

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday sought public opinion on a set of questions linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The step comes at a time when the revision exercise has led to a political standoff between the state’s ruling and opposition parties.

According to officials, ECI has sought feedback on five questions — whether the electoral rolls should undergo detailed scrutiny and revision, whether the names of deceased persons should be deleted, whether electors registered at more than one location should have their names retained at only one place, whether the names of voters who have permanently shifted to other states should be removed, and whether foreigners or other ineligible persons should be excluded from the rolls.
