Harivansh elected as RS dy chairman

Nominated member Harivansh was elected unopposed as Rajya Sabha deputy chairman on Friday for a third consecutive term, with opposition boycotting the election and staging a walkout in protest.
No opposition candidate was fielded against the Janata Dal (United) member after President Droupadi Murmu nominated him to the Upper House on April 10. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said the government should have first filled the Lok Sabha deputy speaker's post, which is vacant since 2019. “It would have been better if they had appointed anyone they wished to that post,” he said.
