Permission for scrapyard on hold until site images are viewed

COUNCILLORS have delayed making a new decision on whether to grant planning permission for a scrapyard in Hoddesdon that they previously blocked.

E&J Properties wants to build a scrapyard for end-of-life cars to the north of Rye Road. Broxbourne Borough Council officers have recommended the plans are approved.

But when councillors on the planning committee met to discuss the application in November, they opted to vote against it, saying that the plans were not in line with the council's Local Plan which had allocated the site for new homes.

When the application came before councillors again at a meeting on May 20 they decided to delay a decision until they have been able to see images of the site as it would look after construction.

Councillor John Perkins said: “To me, it's always important to see what it's going to look like, particularly if we've never seen anything like this at all.”
