Tougher traffic penalties as schools in UAE reopen today

The new 2025-2026 academic year begins on Monday in the UAE and schools are set to welcome one million students amidst full operational and educational readiness.

- Gulf Today, Staff Reporter

Accordingly, all bodies have prepared a comprehensive plan to ensure the highest standards of safety and security for school students.

More warnings have been issued regarding school-related traffic violations. The new UAE traffic law, which came into effect last March, aims to implement the highest standards of traffic safety through the amendments included therein.

These warnings are aimed at tightening penalties to achieve discipline, helping establish rules for abiding by road safety standards and closing the door to any reckless or semi-reckless attempts that may endanger the lives of students, drivers, or pedestrians.

As part of their obligations, motorists must use the road safely without obstructing the movement of vehicles and people or causing a traffic accident.

They are prohibited from parking or placing any vehicle on the road or sidewalk for repairs or parking in the carriageway.

They must also ensure the safety of pedestrians on and off the road, particularly in residential, commercial, and recreational areas, places of worship and educational and healthcare institutions.
