Ex-PM Zulfiqar Bhutto didn’t get fair trial, says apex court judge

Supreme Court judge Muhammad Ali Mazhar has said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) founder and former prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto didn't get a fair trial.
"Decisions made in haste or anger are not only contrary to the basic norms of justice, but also violate the standards set forth in the injunctions of Islam for administration of justice," the judge said in his 24-page opinion on a reference, filed by the then President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, who now also holds the same position, in 2011 under Article 186 of the Constitution, seeking an opinion of the Supreme Court in the judicial process in the case of Bhutto trial.
A nine-member bench of the Supreme Court on March 6, 2024, while hearing the presidential reference, had held that Bhutto did not get a fair trial.
