CM to declare Kerala as first extreme poverty free state

In a historic achievement, Kerala is set to become the first state in India - and possibly the first region in South Asia - to eradicate extreme poverty.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will officially declare the state “extreme poverty-free” on November, coinciding with Kerala's formation day.
This remarkable milestone comes after four years of focused effort under the Extreme Poverty Eradication Programme (EPEP) - a flagship initiative launched in 2021 by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government during its second term.
The programme, spearheaded by the Local Self Government Department (LSGD), has transformed the lives of over 59,000 families who were previously living in conditions of extreme deprivation - without reliable access to food, shelter, healthcare, income, or education.
