On the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu praised the achievements of Indian women across generations and fields, while calling for unity, integrity, and a collective effort to eradicate corruption.
In her address to the nation, President Murmu said the country’s daughters were “our pride,” citing how they were breaking barriers in every sector, from defence to sports. She highlighted the recent success of chess players Divya Deshmukh, 19, and Koneru Humpy, 38, who reached the final of the 2025 FIDE Women’s World Cup. “This proves that our women excel across generations,” she said.
