JOBY AVIATION DEAL TO REVOLUTIONISE URBAN AIR TRAVEL

- BY ASHFAQ AHMED Senior Assistant Editor

Dubai to launch flying taxi services next year

Dubai's vision of an aerial commute is no longer science fiction.

If all goes according to plan, passengers will be soaring above the city in electric flying taxis next year, marking a global first in the evolution of urban mobility.

In an exclusive interview with Gulf News, Ahmad Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency of Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said that this decision follows successful full-scale test flights completed by Joby Aviation.

Joby Aviation is a US venture-backed aviation company, developing an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft that it intends to operate as an air taxi service.

"We aim to be the first city in the world to launch a commercial air taxi service. This is not just a trial. This is a real transport mode that will be integrated into Dubai's infrastructure," Bahrozyan said.
