US stands to lose, not us: Indian drugmakers

WHILE US PRESIDENT Donald Trump has indicated that his administration will initially impose "small" tariffs on pharmaceutical imports before raising them sharply to as much as 150-250% within 12 to 18 months, Indian drug makers warn that such a move could backfire on the US itself.
A spokesperson for a leading pharmaceutical industry association told FE that it would be difficult for Indian companies to absorb the additional cost of the proposed tariffs. However, he noted that firms are already preparing to shift their focus to other markets.
