Gold imports jump by $12.5 bn in FY25 as price skyrockets

SHINING BRIGHT
DESPITE RECORD-HIGH PRICES of gold in 2024-25, Indian households' purchase of the yellow metal hasn't been seriously depressed.
While gold prices went up 33.78% during 2024-25, import demand in volume terms contracted just 4.79%, according to the department of commerce data.
Gold imports in 2024-25 in value terms increased 27.38% on year to $58.01 billion — an increase of $12.47 billion over the previous year.
In volume terms, the imports dropped to 757.15 tonne from 795.32 tonne.
