VOTING FOR ASSEMBLY elections in the states of Kerala and Assam, along with the Union Territory of Puducherry, will be held on Thursday, marking the first phase of the 2026 state election cycle.
A total of 296 Assembly seats across the three regions will go to polls in a single phase. Voting will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
The incumbent BJP in Assam is aiming to return to power for a consecutive third term while the Congress and its allies will challenge the BJP's decade of dominance in the state. The BJP had first come to power in Assam in 2016, when it had formed the first-ever party government in a Northeastern state.
