TMC bets on SIR backlash to corner BJP in Bengal

WITH THE ELECTION Commission (EC)’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls now over in West Bengal, and 27 lakh voters left out after adjudication, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is seeking to use voter exclusion as a key plank in Assembly polls, hoping it could consolidate the party’s base and raise turnout.

“The people of Bengal... know this process (SIR) was initiated to delete names (of genuine voters)... The SIR will generate backlash for the BJP” TMC spokesperson Arup Chakraborty said.
