PLANS to renovate a derelict former market hall in a Derbyshire town centre are set to move forward more than three years after a previous scheme stalled.

South Derbyshire District Council has submitted new plans, to itself, to regenerate the former Swadlincote Market Hall, in Midland Road.

This comes three years after a previous scheme to regenerate the site was put forward - as part of a £1million town centre redevelopment.

Its intent was to turn the facility into a 33-space car park and event space, with its previous iteration saying this could include food fairs, car boot sales, concerts, open air film screenings, silent raves, popup restaurants and a beer garden.

The previous plan had been to remove the roof of the facility, making it an outdoor venue, but now a roof will be retained.
