STAFF WILL RELOCATE 25 MINUTES AWAY TO PLANNED £500M HUB WHEN SITE OPENED JUST SEVEN YEARS AGO SHUTS
A £64million Aldi distribution centre in Derbyshire will close only seven years after it opened.
There are plans to shut the base in Sawley and relocate over the next two years to improve the supermarket giant's efficiency.
The Sawley warehouse measuring 600,000 sq ft has been distributing produce to Aldi stores in the East Midlands since February 2020 and employs 400 people.
A few months later in 2020, the company received planning permission to build a new £500million distribution centre in Bardon, Leicestershire, with the 72-acre former coal mining site currently being turned into a centre measuring an area of 1.3m sq feet or 120,000 sq metres.
