TOP mental health doctors have slammed a "cruel" plan to snatch benefits from thousands with anxiety and depression.
The British Medical Association and charities lashed out at the Government's PIP crackdown.
Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride says the welfare bill&nbsp;is spiralling "out of control". The reform plans promise improved access to treatment instead of welfare payments.
The minister said "one size fits all does not work anymore".
But Dr Andrew Molodynski, mental health lead at the British Medical Association, said MPs&nbsp;should instead "tackle the record levels of poverty this country is facing."
He added: "The answer is not to blame individuals and strip away the support they need.
"This approach is as cruel as it is ineffective."
Shadow work and pensions minister Alison McGovern said:
"Every young person out of work today will never forget whose hands were on the tiller when these Tories robbed them of hope."
James Taylor, of Scope, also called for an end to the "reckless assault" on disabled people and to fix the "real underlying issues".
