Aidan’s filly makes big splash in the rain

WHIRL led every step of the way to grind out victory for Ryan Moore in a sopping wet edition of the £600,000 Qatar Nassau Stakes.

Storm clouds hammered the track with 26mm of rain before the scheduled start time of 3.05pm and lingered overhead.

As lightning remained a threat, extra precautions were taken by officials and the five runners were held back from the course.

When they were finally permitted to start, eight minutes later than planned, Whirl was quickly into her stride from a flag start.
