CAN HE FLICK IT? YES HE CAN

IT REMAINS one of the greatest goals ever scored at Wembley and was followed by one of the most memorable celebrations.
-
Paul Gascoigne scored only one tournament goal for England, but the long ball he flicked over Scotland’s Colin Hendry with one boot and then volleyed past Andy Goram with the other was genius made flesh.
As Gascoigne lay on the pitch in celebration, team-mates Alan Shearer, Steve McManaman and Jamie Redknapp poured Lucozade down his throat in imitation of the infamous ‘Dentist's Chair’ that a couple of weeks before had seen Gazza swallowing not an energy drink but tequila and Drambuie.
It was the goal and the match that brought Euro 96 to life. Having begun with a dull draw against Switzerland and been outplayed by the Scots for much of the first half, Terry Venables’ England were in the throes of a second leaden performance when Gazza delivered a counter-punch for the ages.
