PARKHEAD chief finance officer Chris McKay insists Celtic need to have cash in the bank - because Scotland's European hopes are heading off a cliff.

Hoops fans have fumed at the £77million in the coffers at the last count while the team struggled on the pitch and failed to reach the Champions League after crashing out to Kazakhs Almaty.

But McKay said: “Our objective is always to qualify for the Champions League. But we need to be cognisant of the volatility in football and therefore have a Plan B.

“Plan B is crucial to any well-run football club.
