SAYS SCOTT NISBET

- BY ANDY NEWPORT

NO ONE needs to tell Scott Nisbet about the highs and lows of life at Rangers.

After all, the former Ibrox hero was part of a squad who would climb so high that they found themselves just one goal away from reaching a Champions League Final.

But if getting so close to the summit of European football only to fall short back in 1993 was tough to take, it was nothing like the despair Nisbet's teammates had gone through eight years earlier.

For four decades now, 1985 has held the record for being the darkest chapter in Rangers' footballing history, an annus horribilis which saw Jock Wallace's team suffer 19 defeats across the calendar year.

If finishing fourth at the end of the 1984/85 campaign wasn't humiliating enough, they'd slip one place further the next season - the furthest down the pecking order a Gers side has ever tumbled in a topflight campaign.

But there's now a distinct chance the dark stain that squad has lived with for 40 years could be transferred to the crop of players currently at Ibrox.

Last week's defeat to Roma was the 16th Gers have suffered in 2025 and with six weeks to go before Hogmanay, there are real fears amongst the Light Blues faithful that today's team still have new depths to plumb.
