Calmac on Wilf: Too much too soon
Daily Record
|January 24, 2026
CALLUM McGREGOR has opened up on Wilfried Nancy's disastrous tenure at Celtic and admitted the Frenchman's radical change in tactics were “too much too soon” for the players to adapt to.
Nancy arrived after a decent pedigree with Columbus Crew and Montreal CF in the MLS but got off to a woeful start by losing all four of his first four matches in the dugout including a shock defeat to St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup Final.
He did then register back-to-back wins against Aberdeen and Livingston but was given the boot after just 33 days in the dugout following disastrous defeats to Motherwell and bitter rivals Rangers.
Nancy insisted on utilising his preferred 3-4-3 formation with the Hoops and as a result the likes of Anthony Ralston, Yang Hyun-jun and Benjamin Nygren were playing in unnatural positions.
