THEY ISSUE "NO CONFIDENCE’STATEMENT OVER LOCAL COUNCIL

Pupils being bussed over the border say school's governors

St David's High School Ysgol Uwchradd Dewi Sant

THE governing body of a high school in special measures has hit out at its local authority - including a claim it is bussing pupils over the border to England for their education.

Estyn inspectors visited St David's High School in Saltney, Flintshire, in May this year.

While they found the 343-pupil school had an “inclusive caring community” and a clear focus on “equity and supporting pupils’ well-being” they also found a number of failings.

These included “shortcomings in teaching” and a lack of “strategic leadership” with staff not fully held to account. It saw the school placed into special measures.

But this week the Governing Body of the school released a stinging rebuke of Flintshire County Council (FCC), the local education authority. They issued an “expression of no confidence” in the council.
