Bid to use former care home for asylum seekers accommodation is abandoned

A FORMER care home in Wrexham county has been dropped as a candidate for asylum accommodation.
Wrexham Council announced the Home Office has abandoned plans to use Oak Alyn Hall in Sydallt, near Gwersyllt, to house migrants seeking asylum.
The former 18-bed care home is seeking planning consent to turn it into a 28-bed house of multiple occupancy (HMO).
A week ago, the local authority confirmed the Home Office had also removed Plas Yn Rhos, a former sheltered housing facility in Rhosllanerchrugog, from consideration.
Private sector contractor Clearsprings had been looking to house up to 70 people in the building.
