UK '350,000 carers short' as GMB calls for new law

BRITAIN needs 350,000 more social care workers to reach international safe staffing levels to look after our elderly, says the GMB.

The union will propose a motion at the Labour Party Conference today calling for safe staffing levels in care homes to be enshrined in law.

Other countries, such as Japan and Finland, insist on one carer for every three service users. To hit this, we would need more than 350,000 new carers.
