Jamie Vardy stood before it, holding a royal blue shirt with his surname there for the world to see.

As if anyone at Leicester City needed to be reminded who he was, or what he had achieved.

At first glance, that gushing tribute might be considered an overstatement.

But when you look down the list of players who trail in Vardy's wake in the Premier League goalscoring stakes, it's easy to see why the Foxes lavished such praise upon the 38-year-old marksman.

His 143 goals beat the totals of Didier Drogba, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Dwight Yorke, Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez, Dennis Bergkamp, Nicolas Anelka, and Romelu Lukaku.

There are some highly lauded forwards among that lot, and he bested them all.

However, not one of them created and lived through a fairytale like Vardy.
