FOR YEARS, Nicola McKenzie tried to push through her hip pain. What started as a dull ache gradually turned into something that shaped every part of her day - and night.
"I was walking at an angle without even realising it," says Nicola. "My back started hurting too, and simple things like getting up from a chair became difficult. At night my thighs would ache and I just couldn't get comfortable."
HIP REPLACEMENT SURGERY
The 58-year-old carer from South Wales had arthritis in her hip, and as the joint deteriorated, the pain became sharper and more unpredictable. Bone spurs and worn cartilage meant one wrong movement could stop her in her tracks.
