TV news anchor in emotional plea after Nancy, 84, is 'taken'

The Nancy Guthrie story may have all the ingredients of a hit Netflix thriller, but for her family - including a respected TV news anchor - it is all too real.

NBC Today presenter Savannah Guthrie made an impassioned plea for the safe return of her 84-year-old mum, who vanished from her home last Saturday in a suspected kidnapping. The FBI have issued a $50,000 reward for information on her whereabouts and President Donald Trump ordered the FBI and Secret Service to be put on the case immediately.

Savannah, 54, addressed the supposed kidnapper on Wednesday, saying: “We are ready to talk. However, voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her.

“We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us.”

Then, addressing Nancy directly, she said: “Mommy, if you are hearing this, you are a strong woman. You are God's precious daughter, Nancy.

“We believe and know that even in this valley, he is with you.

“Everyone is looking for you, Mommy. We will not rest. Your children will not rest until we are together again.”

Nancy, who takes daily medication and has limited mobility, had dinner with her daughter Annie at the home she shares with her husband, Tommaso Cioni, on Saturday.
