At last! Cowards who refuse to face justice WILL face extra jail

COWARDLY criminals who refuse to face justice will be hit with up to two years extra in jail, an unlimited fine or prison sanctions.

Behind-bars punishments that could be dished out for failing to attend a sentencing hearing include a stint in solitary confinement, and restricted access to the gym or work scheme.

Those who are disruptive when they are sentenced - such as Southport killer Axel Rudakubana - will also face the sanctions.

Victims Minister Alex Davies-Jones said: "Perpetrators should have to face up to their crimes."

It is a victory for grieving families who have battled for changes.

The moves are also a win for the Mirror's Face Justice campaign.

Labour's Victims and Courts Bill is expected to be introduced this week. It will give judges legal power to order offenders dealt with at crown courts to attend their sentencing.
