A battle for the soul of the nation

THE stakes in politics have rarely been higher.

A battle for the soul of the nation

It's less and less about left and right. More and more, a battle for the soul of the nation.

A fight between people like me who want to fix Britain's problems and bring communities together and people like Nigel Farage who only want to spread hate and grievance.

Today, that battle comes to a by-election in Gorton and Denton, two suburbs of Manchester.

Labour's candidate, Angeliki Stogia, has lived in the city for three decades.

She is in politics for the right reasons - to serve her community.

Her campaign has offered only unity, hope and a plan for local renewal.

Contrast that with her Reform UK opponent, the divisive Matt Goodwin.

Politics for him is merely a platform for self-promotion and division.

His opinions speak for themselves.

He believes that women who choose not to have children should pay higher taxes.

Goodwin claimed young women and girls need a "biological reality check" if they don't have children early in life. And he believes that you cannot truly be English unless you are white.
