0.1% growth makes a big difference for Chancellor

Reeves gets surprise economy boost

THE economy unexpectedly grew at the end of last year, providing a much-needed boost to Chancellor Rachel Reeves.

The Office for National Statistics said gross domestic product - a measure of everything the country churns out - edged up 0.1% between October and December, following no growth in the previous three months.

The uptick was helped by growth of 0.4% in December, which is better than most analysts expected.
