Six-year-old Alfred in 100-mile mission to help his D-Day hero pal, 100

YOUNG Alfred Mawson will spend his summer holiday putting his best foot forward for his 100-year-old D-Day hero best pal.

Alfred, six, will walk, run and swim 100 miles to raise enough cash to buy Harry Archer a set of replica war medals.

He stepped in after Harry's care home in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, framed and mounted his gongs as a 100th birthday gift.

They now hang proudly on the Royal Signals veteran's bedroom wall — but it means the warrior has no gongs to wear at commemorative events and reunions.
