Actress on why she was happy to go back to camp

- BY NICOLA METHVEN

CORONATION Street favourite Beverley Callard believes going on I'm a Čelebrity gave her a much-needed boost to her confidence.

The actress, who was 10th on the ITV series six years ago, revealed last month that since recording the All Stars show in South Africa last year she has been diagnosed with “very early stage” breast cancer. She has since had surgery including the removal of lymph nodes.

I'm a Celebrity All Stars, which runs for 18 days, starts next Monday and this time will have a live final.

Bev, 69, says going on I’m a Celebrity in Wales in 2020 during Covid restrictions, alongside the likes of Jordan North and Vernon Kay, had changed her.

She says: “I do tend to suffer from low self-esteem. Without sounding big-headed, because people kept telling me they loved me and how down to earth I was, it gave me confidence and it was lovely to be with such a wonderful group of people.”

This time around she’s very happy to have swapped the freezing Gwrych Castle for the warmth of South Africa’s Kruger National Park. But she is still terrified of the trials.
