THE dad of England’s audacious backheel goalscorer Alessia Russo was himself a star footballer...with the Met Police.
Striker Mario Russo spent 18 years with the team and remains their record marksman.
He was hailed as a “top hot- shot” and, just like his daughter, was at the centre of a big final, this time in February 1990.
Then the Met took on Vauxhall Conference League side Barrow in the FA Trophy but narrowly lost 1-0 after a valiant battle – with Mario coming “inches close” to an equaliser.
