Forward thinking - but will lack of defensive reinforcement bite Sky Blues?
Coventry Telegraph
|February 04, 2026
SO that’s your lot then, Coventry City have completed their January business ahead of what are the biggest 16 games in the club's modern day history.
Having got themselves to top of the league by October, the Sky Blues were being touted as runaway leaders heading into a testing festive period where illness, form and fitness took its toll, culminating in a ten point gap narrowing to nothing following Saturday's 2-1 defeat at QPR.
The club acted early in the window, addressing the glaring holes in the squad, namely out wide on the right and left where Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Ephron Mason-Clark were Frank Lampard’s only recognised wingers.
The arrival of Romain Esse has had the immediate desired effect in upping the competition, with the Crystal Palace loan man scoring two goals already as he and Sakamoto have shared the responsibility on the right - the latter popping up with assists for winning goals and showing signs of being back to his best after a dip over Christmas.
