Hollywood honours Marilyn Monroe, 100 years after her birth

|June 04, 2026
HOLLYWOOD is marking the 100th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s birth with a week of special events celebrating the enduring legacy of one of cinema’s most iconic stars.
-
Festivities begin on Monday at the historic Chinese Theatre, where Monroe’s handprints remain immortalised alongside those of her Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) co-star Jane Russell. Fans are expected to sing Happy Birthday in tribute — a nod to Monroe’s unforgettable performance for President John F Kennedy.
A bouquet of 100 roses and a commemorative cake will also be placed at the landmark, a lasting symbol of Hollywood's golden age.
Tributes began on Sunday with the opening of Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon at the Academy Museum — a major exhibition celebrating the actress's remarkable career and life, cut tragically short.
