SOUTH Africans witnessed something alarming recently: a reported attempt on the life of Deputy President of the country and the ANC, Paul Mashatile.

His motorcade was allegedly shot at after he returned from an ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting last month.
In any functioning democracy, an attack on someone so high up in government would set off alarm bells.
However, here it's been met with dangerous silence, political finger-pointing, and even mockery.
