PURPLE SEAT AMONG THE EDGBASTON 53 MARKS PLACE IN SPORTING HISTORY

Academy founder Carol recognised as a trailblazer in women's cricket

A CRICKET academy founder from Cambridge has been recognised for her work changing the game of cricket as part of a new campaign from the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Carol Brown-Leonardi is one of 53 women to have had a purple seat unveiled at Edgbaston ahead of the first ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, marking 53 years since the inaugural Women's Cricket World Cup was held in England in 1973.

Ms Brown-Leonardi founded the Cambridge Caribbean Cricket Academy to break down financial barriers and bring children from the African-Caribbean diaspora and other ethnic backgrounds into cricket, providing low-cost coaching, matches, and tournaments while celebrating Caribbean cricket culture through the introduction of legends like Viv Richards and Brian Lara.

Driven by a lifelong love of the game instilled by her parents, she dreams big for every child who comes through the academy, and is determined to make cricket as accessible as possible.
